27-10-2010 Bare Light Bulbs Garry Cohn 'Pembroke' Collection is Inspired by the Early 20th Century
The 2011 Garry Cohn ‘Pembroke’ collection of lighting is inspired by early 20th century modern design. Slim copper tubing gives the appearance of old electrical cord tied in knots to create these crude yet elegant light fixtures. Garry Cohn uses wooden cranks, gears and glass-beaded ornamentation reminiscent of this time gone by.
Finnish designers Aamu Song and Johan Olin visit factories and craftsmen in Germany, South Korea and Finland, see what they’re capable of producing, and then design products that correlate with the skill set of the manufacturers. Rather than letting these traditional factories die out, they propose to take charge of the skills already out there to create new products.
